Exit Gloucester Green from the main south exit, following signs to the Rail Station. Turn right on to George street. Make a mental note of all the restaurants on this street to try later.
At the main junction with traffic lights, cross over using the pedestrian crossing and pass Oxford canal on Hythe Bridge Street. A better alternative is to walk around the side of the public car park and continue on to Park End street, which has wider pavements and less traffic.
Both roads lead to St Frideswide Square, which is designated 'shared use', so bikes may be on the pedestrian footpath. Cross over on to the wider left hand footpath and head under the railway bridge.
Walk along Botley road under the railway bridge. cross over Mill street, destination River Hotel will be on the left.
